Just Say “No”
If only he had instituted the right to refuse service, aCalmar Bartender wouldn’t be out $6,000.00 Not many details were provided on this case but
essentially, the bartender served an ‘already
intoxicated’patron who later turned up dead in a home. The autopsy report indicates she died of alcohol
poisoning.
The bartender was originally charged
with manslaughter and criminal
negligence causing death as was the
owner and his company. But in the end,
the bartender received a fine of $6,000
after pleading guilty to serving alcohol to
someone who is already intoxicated and
charges against the owner and his
company were subsequently withdrawn.
Whether it be a bar, restaurant, retail
store or wherever the public is invited -
the right to refuse service remains the
right of all employees and owners. Having said that, so does the public’s
decision to say “No” when they’ve had
enough.
